Questions for FAF
These are open questions that need FAF’s input before certain phases of development begin. None of these block the first phase of building — they’re organized by when each answer is needed. If you have a response, use the text area below any question and hit Send.
ASM includes pre-made report formats for Petco Foundation, Best Friends Data Matrix, ASPCA, and others. Which specific grant reports does FAF currently use? Are there any you wish you had? This determines what the reporting export section of the app needs to produce.
Is FAF using ASM’s built-in accounting module to track financial records — income, expenses, etc.? If yes, a replacement needs to be in place before ASM is decommissioned. This doesn’t block the build but affects the ASM transition timeline.
Only 2 of 45 active dogs have descriptions in the Shelter Manager export. The full dog bios visible on the FAF website live only in Wix. These need to be preserved before the new website replaces it.
Note: The Wix site is not going anywhere until the new site is ready to launch. When the time comes, FAF can provide all dog bios by copying them into a shared Google Doc — about 30 minutes of work across all 45 dogs.
FAF likely has a library of professional and event photography beyond the single profile photo per dog in Shelter Manager. Before Phase 3 (media pipeline) and the website rebuild, Shauna will need access to wherever this photography lives — OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, etc. Please share access before Phase 3 begins.
Does FAF currently track donors anywhere — a spreadsheet, a CRM, DonorBox records? If yes, that data should be migrated into the app at launch. Also: does FAF have major donors, recurring donors, or grant funders whose giving history is actively managed?
FAF currently uses Square for in-person payments at events. Once the new website is live with Stripe for online donations, FAF has two options:
- Keep Square — continue using it at events, manually enter event donors into the app afterward. No change to the event workflow.
- Transition to Stripe Terminal — Stripe’s card reader hardware (~$59–$299). All payment data unifies automatically. Stripe’s nonprofit rate is 2.2% + $0.30 per transaction for verified 501(c)(3) organizations.
No decision needed now — evaluate after the website launches and FAF is comfortable with Stripe.
What platform or service does FAF currently use to sell merchandise on the website? For example, Shopify, Spring, Printful, Bonfire, WooCommerce, or something else. Knowing this will ensure the new website integrates with or properly links to the existing store without breaking anything.
The current FAF website uses Wix’s built-in store to sell merchandise. Before the new website can fully launch and Wix can be decommissioned, the merch store will need to move to a standalone platform such as Shopify, Spring, or Bonfire.
Do you have a preference for where the store should move? And is this something FAF would handle independently, or would you like it included as part of this project?
